Stefano Cao

Stefano Cao is a corporate executive with vast experience in the energy and infrastructure sectors.

Since April 2015 he is serving as CEO of Saipem SpA, one of the global leaders in the businesses of Engineering & Construction and Drilling, with a strong positioning in oil & gas, remote locations and deep water.

He began his career with the ENI group S.p.A. in 1976, initially with Saipem S.p.A. – which he left in 2000 as executive chairman – and subsequently at ENI S.p.A., which he left in 2008 as chief operating officer of the exploration & production division. From 2000 to 2008, the hydrocarbon production of the division increased from 1,200,000 to 1,800,000 boe/day with the opening of new production fields, the acquisition of independent exploration and production companies and the purchase of production assets.

From February 2009 to June 2012, he held the position of managing director and CEO of Sintonia SA, a holding company in the infrastructure sector, established by Edizione Holding, Goldman Sachs Infrastructure Partners, Mediobanca and GIC.

In his career, he also served as Chairman of the board of SPIG S.p.A., a shareholder and board member of Exploenergy S.r.l. – an independent company active the exploration and production of hydrocarbons, formed in 2011 – and member of the board of A2A. From 2002 to 2006 he served as chairman of Assomineraria.

He received his degree in Mechanical Engineering from Università degli Studi, Rome.
