- Metallurgica Irpina: a leading Italian specialist in wire-based solutions for infrastructure, industry and agriculture.
- Deal reinforces Maccaferri's core manufacturing and broadens its perimeter protection offering.
- Transaction opens a new growth front in climate-resilient, resource-efficient agribusiness, powered by Maccaferri's engineering expertise and global reach.
Milan/London/Paris/Munich/Stockholm, 28 October 2026 - Ambienta SGR S.p.A. ("Ambienta"), one of Europe’s largest asset managers exclusively focused on environmental sustainability, is pleased to announce that its platform company Officine Maccaferri S.p.A. ("Maccaferri" or the "Group"), a global leader in engineering solutions for climate change adaptation and environmental protection and an investment of Ambienta IV, has acquired Metallurgica Irpina ("Metallurgica" or the "Company"), a leading Italian manufacturer of wire-based solutions for infrastructure, perimeter protection and agricultural applications.
Infrastructure accounts for approximately 5% of global CO₂ emissions, largely driven by the use of carbon-intensive construction materials such as cement and concrete. At the same time, the increasing frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, including floods, landslides and soil erosion, is driving demand for more resilient and resource-efficient infrastructure solutions. Against this backdrop, Maccaferri continues to expand its portfolio of engineering technologies designed to improve infrastructure durability, support climate change adaptation and reduce the environmental footprint of construction activities.
Founded in 1997 by Giancarlo Molinario and headquartered in Ariano Irpino, Italy, Metallurgica Irpina is a vertically integrated manufacturer specialising in steel wire processing and the production of wire mesh, fencing systems, panels and posts. The Company has established a leading position in the Italian market, serving a diversified range of end markets, including infrastructure, industrial applications and agriculture. Its solutions range from perimeter protection systems and support structures for vineyards and orchards to slope stabilisation and riverbank protection.
The acquisition strengthens Maccaferri's position in its core double-twist business by internalising complementary manufacturing capabilities and specialist wire-processing know-how. Metallurgica's vertically integrated production platform further enhances the Group's industrial capabilities and expands its portfolio of wire-based solutions. The transaction also reinforces Maccaferri's manufacturing footprint in Italy, which remains a strategic industrial hub supporting the Group's international operations.
Beyond the core business, the transaction extends Maccaferri into two attractive adjacent markets: perimeter protection and agribusiness. In perimeter protection, Metallurgica's established manufacturing capabilities and broad portfolio for infrastructure and industrial applications complement Maccaferri's existing offering, building an increasingly comprehensive range of engineered protection solutions.
Agribusiness offers a particularly attractive long-term opportunity, driven by growing demand for agricultural systems that can withstand climate change and resource constraints. Metallurgica's established presence in vineyard and orchard support structures gives Maccaferri an immediate commercial foothold in the sector. Combining Metallurgica's sector expertise and longstanding customer relationships with Maccaferri's engineering know-how and technologies will enable new solutions for more resilient, resource-efficient farming.
The combination also creates significant scope for international growth. Building on Metallurgica's strong position in Italy and Maccaferri's commercial network across more than 130 countries, the Group will accelerate the roll-out of Metallurgica's products in selected European markets and progressively beyond, while pursuing cross-selling across complementary customer segments and applications.
The deal is a further milestone in Maccaferri's buy-and-build strategy to create a global platform in environmental engineering and climate change adaptation by integrating specialist industrial businesses, complementary technologies and new market capabilities. Building on its recent acquisitions, the Group continues to strengthen its industrial core while selectively broadening its applications, combining manufacturing excellence, engineering expertise and global market access to support sustainable long-term growth.
Andrea Venturini, Partner at Ambienta, commented: "Metallurgica Irpina is a compelling addition to Maccaferri's industrial platform, strengthening a core business while opening attractive adjacent markets. We see particular potential in agribusiness, where demand for more resilient, resource-efficient solutions is driving innovation. Alongside the Group's recent acquisitions, this is another important step in building a global leader in environmental engineering and climate change adaptation."
Stefano Susani, CEO of Officine Maccaferri, added: "Metallurgica Irpina strengthens our industrial capabilities and broadens our offering in perimeter protection and agribusiness. Combining its manufacturing expertise, product quality and customer insight with our technologies and global network will help us accelerate growth, expand internationally and develop new solutions across increasingly important end markets. We are delighted to welcome Giancarlo Molinario and his team to the Group."
Giancarlo Molinario, CEO of Metallurgica Irpina, commented: "We are very pleased to be joining Maccaferri, marking an important new chapter in Metallurgica Irpina's growth journey. Building on our industrial expertise, customer relationships and the skills of our people, we can now leverage the Group's engineering capabilities and international reach to take our products to new markets. This provides a strong foundation for the Company's long-term development, building on the skills and experience of our people."
